Maritime Standardization Conference: A Platform for Promoting Awareness and Advancing Marine Standards

The Dean of the Faculty of Marine Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) and Secretary of the Conference provided details on the organization of the First Conference on Standards and Standardization in the Maritime Industry, stating:
“This meeting is essentially the session of the Conference Board of Directors. The main purpose of holding this session is to receive insights and viewpoints from senior officials in the fields of culture, maritime affairs, and standardization, and to ensure that the course we have initiated moves forward in the right direction.”
He added: “Cultural values ultimately lead to the creation of civilization, and we have strived to follow this path by emphasizing cultural principles. So far, we have supported numerous theses and projects related to marine standards, held specialized training workshops, and established extensive collaborations with industry in this domain.”
The Secretary of the Conference noted that several international marine standards have already been obtained, and efforts are underway to adapt them to national conditions: “In fact, we are preparing an Iranian version of these standards. Four to five projects in this field have already been launched, and we are optimistic about their success.”
He outlined the main objectives of the conference as follows:

- Providing a platform for experts to share recent advancements.
- Discussing the principles and philosophy of standardization.
- Reviewing specialized marine standards.
- Addressing standards across the product life cycle.
- Examining the relationship between standardization and marine-based development.
- Developing data standards and marine information exchange protocols.
- Exploring standards for emerging technologies and artificial intelligence.
- Reviewing the process of drafting and developing standards.
- Focusing on marine environmental standards.
- Enhancing the quality of marine products.
- Strengthening the role of institutions and organizations in marine standardization.
He further explained that four committees have been established to organize the conference:
- The Board of Directors Committee,
- The Scientific Committee,
- The Executive Committee, and
- The International Relations Committee.
The Secretary of the Conference added: “We aim to organize targeted training workshops addressing the real needs of the industry. We invite our colleagues from various sectors to propose workshop topics that may require the presence of international experts. We are fully prepared to facilitate such opportunities.”
He continued: “The conference call poster has been published, although the recent 12-day war caused some delays. The paper submission portal is now active, and the peer-review process will be conducted as scheduled. The conference will be held on Wednesday, December 2 (12 Azar). It will be a one-day conference, followed by additional side activities on the second day.”
The Dean of the Faculty of Marine Engineering stated that the venue will be Amirkabir University of Technology, with participants including academics, industry professionals, and government representatives.
“The first day will feature parallel keynote sessions, while the second and third days will be dedicated to workshops and specialized panels,” he said.
He emphasized that the training workshops are designed to address industrial challenges, and industries have been asked to submit their specific needs to ensure that the sessions are purpose-driven.
“Additionally, a side exhibition will provide an opportunity for organizations, companies, and universities to showcase their products and achievements related to marine standards. This exhibition is non-commercial and aims to complement the scientific discussions of the conference,” he added.
The Conference Secretary stated: “Fortunately, the conference call has been published in both Persian and English, and the conditions for hosting the event are favorable. The call for papers and related materials have been reviewed, updated, and disseminated through all online and physical channels. The final conference poster will be released next week.”
He concluded by noting: “So far, two sessions of the Scientific Committee have been held to define the academic policy of the conference, and two meetings of the International Relations Committee have also taken place. The meetings of the International Committee were held at the Office for Cooperation, Progress, and Transformation of the Presidential Administration.”
