Establishment of a Comprehensive Marine Science, Engineering, and Technology Research Institute at Amirkabir University of Technology

The Head of the Faculty of Marine Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology, referring to the research infrastructure of the faculty, announced the establishment of the Comprehensive Research Institute for Marine Sciences, Engineering, and Technologies.

 
 

According to the Public Relations Office of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Mehdi Saeid Kiasat, speaking at the ceremony for honoring and introducing the Head of the Faculty of Marine Engineering, presented a report on the 38-year history of research and education at the faculty and stated: The faculty was established in 1987 under the name Faculty of Shipbuilding Engineering and Marine Industries, and later, with the addition of specialists from other marine disciplines, it was renamed the Faculty of Marine Engineering.

Kiasat referred to the number of students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels and noted that the faculty currently has 226 undergraduate students, 62 master's students, and 58 doctoral students.

The Head of the Faculty of Marine Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology also mentioned three educational-research laboratories and two workshops as part of the faculty’s infrastructure and added that the Office for the Development of Marine Standards was established in 2021 and has attracted more than 20 billion tomans in research funding over the past four years. In addition, long-term cooperation agreements with industry, ranging from 5 to 10 years and amounting to 1,000 billion tomans, have been signed.

He also cited cooperation with the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution for drafting the Comprehensive Marine Development Document and the organization of the Conference on Standards and Standardization in Marine Industries as other achievements of the faculty, and stated that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Secretariat of the Coordinating Council for Sea-Oriented Development.

Finally, the Head of the Faculty of Marine Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology announced the establishment of the Comprehensive Research Institute for Marine Sciences, Engineering, and Technologies, adding that the total value of the faculty’s contracts in the current year is approximately 70 billion tomans.
